Shopping List

Shopping List

Since I had to tighten my purse strings and curb my shopping habits almost a year ago, I have found the best way to keep myself in check is to keep a running list of the things I need.  I used to just buy everything in sight, either because it was "cute" and I was sure I would need it some day, or because it was cheap, so why not?  Well, now I know "why not" - because I have a separate closet overflowing with never-been worn clothes and shoes I am trying to get rid of and I feel sick looking at it, thinking about all the money I wasted.  Plus, now I get little loving lectures about shopping every time my husband stands in front of that closet, shaking his head; and of course I respond in the most loving and mature manner, by jamming my fingers in my ears, sticking my tongue out at him and storming off.  So I have learned to check my closet for what I already have, to prevent buying the same things over and over . . . yes, I have done this and on more than one occasion - anybody need a black pencil skirt or seven?  And I have learned to make sure I actually think before I buy, and buy only the things that I am madly in love with.  Sometimes this requires walking away if I am not sure, and if I am still obsessing about it by the end of the week, then there is my answer.  This all may seem pretty elementary, but for a shopaholic, it is seriously rocket science.  So here is my current shopping list of the things I have been lusting after, and therefore, needing:

- Pastel blazer - Topshop Pale Peach Co-ordinating Linen Blazer, $120
- New Panama hat - BCBG Straw Hat, $58
- Oversize clutch in a fun color - Asos Shelley Leather Clutch, $83
- The perfect red pants - Acne Straight-leg Cotton Pants, $100
- Black reading glasses - Forever 21 Readers, $5.80
- Fun colored nail polish - OPI Gargantuan Green Grape, $4 on sale; Banana Bandanna, $5.35 on sale
- High-waisted navy shorts - Topshop Navy Cotton Belted Shorts, $76

  7. Eeeek! Such *cute* stuff! Girl, you know I do the same thing! Keeping a list to prevent me from just buying all the cheap on sale crap in every store!

Luckily, my Hubs doesn't fuss about all my clothes (until I sneak them in his suitcase when we're traveling!) because I rarely spend "our" money. It helps that we each have a set amount of fluff money each month. I kind of can't wait to go back to work for awhile so maybe my shopping $$$ can be increased! Ha ha

  9. That's a pretty good list you got there! I did a whishlist for my bday on the blog too.
I hear ya on having more than one (or five) items of clothing that look kind of the same. Maybe have a blog sale? I'm sure it would help you de-clutter :)

  15. I'm in the same boat, so much stuff that just needs to be given away, I just don't have the heart to give away things I've never worn and spent so much money on. I'm thinking of doing a Blog Sale. At least they'll go to a home where people want these items and I'll make some of the money back. even if it is 5% of it. :-D

  16. Lol! Yeah, that's a great idea - we still have separate accounts, so I could be sneaky, but I have a guilty conscience, so I really can't hide anything from him!! :)
